It's hard work pounding mall aisles and jostling among ardent fellow shoppers during the summer sales. This is why the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2008 Spa Packages promotions couldn't have come at a better time.
In an arrangement with 25 of the city's top spas, the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) office is offering promotions on treatments to visitors and residents till August 22.
Marketing Manager of the DSF office Khulood Al Thani said the Spa Packages promotion is into its third year and a good way to promote Dubai as a growing global destination for spa tourism.
“Dubai is renowned for the facilities it offers tourists, and with the burgeoning international spa resorts in Dubai, we are witnessing a steady increase in the number of spa tourists to the emirate. Dubai is unique for the fact that almost every spa treatment found around the world can now be enjoyed here," Al Thani comments.
Spa managers say Dubai's modern-day spas are not relaxation centres but a well-being concept.
Spas participating in the DSS 2008 Spa Packages offer a wide variety of traditional and alternative treatments.
A typical spa treatment includes a shower to purify the body. The second step is to heat the body. Many spas offer heated whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms. The third step is the treatment such as a body scrub and massage. After these exhausting activities, one must rest.
Growing trend
Spa managers say there are as many types of spas as there are treatments and although it may look confusing for a first time visitor, the experience is something to remember and different from every other visit.
“There are general treatments focused on relieving stress and more specialised therapies for illnesses. It is up to each visitor to decide what treatment is suitable for them," says DSS 2008 organiser Suhaib Abdullakutty.
He added that the spa industry is a small but growing segment in the health industry and in the coming years, specialised wellness programmes are set to lure a niche group of health tourists.
The participating spas in the DSS 2008 Spa Packages are world-class establishments that have won several awards for their outstanding customer service, equipped with the latest treatments and facilities Abdullahkutty says.
DSS Spa packages are available at: Akaru Spa, Aviation Club. Amara Spa, Park Hyatt Dubai. Angsana Spa, Dubai Marina, Arabian Ranches, Emirates Hills, Hotel & Suites Dubai, Montgomerie Dubai. Thousands throng MFC
Modhesh Fun City welcomed more than 70,000 visitors in just two weeks of DSS 2008. Organisers predict the figure will dramatically increase in coming weeks because of planned international stage acts and the more than 30 zones catering to children and families.
Since the festival has kicked off families have enjoyed international stage shows, the latest electronic games, physical activity games, mind development activities and a host of social and cultural events.
