Piolo upstaged
Jake Cuenca is a happy man after beating a host of top stars, including Piolo Pascual, to a dream movie role.
Guess who is wearing a big grin these days? It's Jake Cuenca, that's who, after his name was announced as the leading man of K.C. Concepcion in the pilot episode of her first TV series.
Acting career
K.C., daughter of megastar Sharon Cuneta, has become a sought after celebrity after she signified her intention to pursue an acting career late last year. She recently appeared in one episode of a dramatic series, and is now being groomed to be one of TV's biggest stars with her own series.
Honoured
Jake, who has an action series of his own, says he is honoured to have been given the role, considering that bigger stars have been mentioned recently, such as John Lloyd Cruz and Piolo Pascual.
Back in the limelight
After getting caught in the middle of an ugly fight between former beauty queen Carlene Aguilar and teen actress Cristine Reyes, Dennis Trillo is now back in the limelight, having been chosen to replace the semi-retired controversial actor Gabby Concepcion, who fled the country after getting involved in an acting award scam.
The reclusive actor apparently made ridiculous demands after the shooting schedule was set (and down payments made), prompting producers to replace him immediately. Dennis wasn't the popular choice, having had a string of negative publicity recently.
He was, however, the final choice for the movie that will be shot in Europe. Kibitzers say Dennis eventually landed the role after an influential talent handler pulled strings to make it happen.
A plum role
Katrina Halili is set to take on a life-changing movie role
After a string of villainess roles, Katrina Halili is taking on the biggest challenge of her career when she begins shooting for her first lead role in a dramatic series.
Katrina has been chosen to reprise the role that Dina Bonnevie did in the 1986 hit movie Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita (I Will Rise and Crush You).
The film is expected to establish Katrina as one of the country's top dramatic actresses, just as the movie did for Dina Bonnevie almost two decades ago.
