What is minimum gratuity?

A reader from Dubai asks:
I work for a company in Jafza and as per the Jafza rules, there should be a minimum of seven days gratuity for each completed year of service. For this reason all companies pay gratuity for only seven days. I understand that in Dubai (except free zones) the minimum gratuity is 20 to 30 days for every completed year of service. Is this rule of 20 to 30 days not applicable to Free Zones? Will it make any difference when the new labour law takes place in the near future?

The questioner in this case is not obliged to accept the gratuity of his company if such a gratuity violates the articles of the Labour Law, consequently he can reject such a gratuity and seek to refer the matter to the Labour Court which will have its jurisdiction as per the Labour Law.
