Kabul: Roadside bombs struck Afghan security forces in two separate incidents, killing seven people and wounding five, officials said yesterday.
Three Afghan soldiers were killed and four wounded when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in the Musa Qala district of southern Helmand province, said General Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the Defence Ministry spokesman.
In eastern Khost, meanwhile, four Afghan guards working for the US military were killed when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb on Tuesday, said Wazir Pacha, a spokesman for the provincial police chief. Another guard was wounded in the blast in Shinkay district.
In western Afghanistan, meanwhile, Taliban militants freed 21 Afghan and Arab men who were abducted on Sunday while hunting for rare birds in Farah province, said Abdul Rashid, a deputy provincial police chief.
The group was robbed of their money, weapons and personal belongings, officials said. The elders of the area secured the release of the group, which included 11 foreigners and 10 Afghan guards, Rashid said.
A Taliban commander named Mullah Khodaidad was behind the kidnappings, he said.
There has been some confusion over the nationalities of the foreigners, with some maintaining that the men were Pakistani.
