London: The British Ministry of Defence says nine people have been injured in a friendly fire incident in Afghanistan.
An investigation has been launched into what is the first instance of friendly fire by the UK armed forces in Afghanistan.
The Paratroopers called in air support after encountering Taleban fighters and an Apache helicopter successfully fired upon their position.
However, the helicopter then fired upon a second position, which the crew thought to be Taleban fighters too.
Three of the soldiers were serious injured in the incident, and one has been flown back to the UK, according to the British Ministry of Defence.
