Beijing: A chemical leak in northeast China has killed at least three people, a state news agency reported on Friday.

Few details were available about the leak Thursday in Qiqihaer city of Heilongjiang province. An investigation was under way, Xinhua News Agency said.

Qiqihaer is located only 400 kilometres from the Russian border. The city lies along the Nin River, a major tributary of the Songhua River, which flows into Russia.

Russia's Environment Minister on Friday said that China violated an agreement by failing to provide information about the latest accident and has sent an official note to complain and request information.
