Islamabad: President Pervez Musharraf will attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics on August 8 at the invitation of the Chinese government, the foreign ministry said on Monday.
Musharraf is also expected to call on President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders during his visit, a ministry spokesman said.
"The participation of the President of Pakistan in the mega event and his interaction with Chinese leaders will provide further impetus to our close and traditional ties with China," the spokesman told reporters.
A 35-member Olympic contingent will represent the country in hockey, athletics, shooting and swimming competitions.
