Beijing: Rescue teams headed to China's southwestern Sichuan province while the death toll in the 6.1 magnitude earthquake rose to 28 on Sunday, state media reported.
The Xinhua news agency reported that at least 350 people were also wounded in the earthquake that struck Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.
Rescue teams rushed to bring tents, food and water to survivors, as well as to help evacuate more than 30,000 people from Panzhihua after up to 300 aftershocks rattled the area, Xinhua repoted.
Relief efforts were hampered by heavy rains and the region's rugged terrain.
Footage from state broadcaster China Central Television showed dozens of evacuees assembled on a field of a primary school in Panzhihua.
