Paris: France has sent a jet to French Guyana to readily transport French-Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt, if a deal is reached between Colombia and the rebels holding her, the French government said on Sunday.
A spokesman for President Nicolas Sarkozy's office added that the aircraft was fully equipped medically, adding that the plane would stay until Monday, when it will be replaced by another aircraft.
The Falcon 900 business jet is normally used by Sarkozy on overseas trips, but landed near French Guyana's capital Cayenne late on Saturday.
The spokesman said the plane, which has been "pre-positioned" as a standby measure, would stay until Monday when it would be replaced by another fully equipped medical aircraft.
Colombia announced on Saturday that France would be willing to receive former guerrilla fighters under a deal to free hostages, including Betancourt.
President Alvaro Uribe proposed this deal to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or Farc, with hopes to prompt freeing of captives held in the jungle by Farc for as long as 10 years.
