Hong Kong: The Olympic torch landed in Hong Kong on Wednesday, returning to Chinese soil after a conflict-ridden worldwide run.
The torch was greeted with a marching band and crowds of cheering children at the airport on its way from its stop in Vietnam.
Seven protesters were deported at the airport ahead of the flame’s arrival, while five others attempted to disrupt a welcoming ceremony at a cultural centre.
Heavy security has been arranged to guard the torch when it begins its relay through the city on Friday.
In a speech the city’s second top leader, Henry Tang, said: "It has been 44 years since we last welcomed the Olympic flame to our city," adding that measures will be taken for smooth running of the event.
