Ranchi: Inspector General of Police Nirmala Chaudhary has sought protection after she claimed to have received threatening calls and SMS from the underworld.
Chaudhary is posted in the vigilance department of Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB). "I have received threat calls and SMS from the underworld for the past few days. The underworld and cyber criminals are after me," she told the media.
"I met a woman, who works in Hyderabad, during professional training at Xavier Labour Research Institute, Jamshedpur. I suspected her activities and started gathering information about her," she said.
Chaudhary said: "There is a cyber crime gang which collects information about any individual and passes on the information to the underworld. And the underworld makes threatening calls for extortion and other kinds of benefits."
She has sent a letter to higher authorities and has sought security.
