Srinagar: Cable authorities broadcasting Pakistani television channels in Kashmir have been blocked by Indian authorities in a move described by the region's separatists as "cultural aggression" by New Delhi.
Following orders from the administration four Pakistani channels, PTV, ARY, Aaj and Geo TV, have been blocked by cable operators in Srinagar.
Officials said the operators did not have sufficient clearance to broadcast the channels.
Muslim-majority Kashmir has high demand for Pakistani television channels provided mainly by cable TV channels.
Officials said the cable operators did not have the necessary government clearance to broadcast the channels.
A chief cleric and chairman of Kashmir's main separatist alliance, All Parties Hurriyat (Freedom Conference), said the ban was an example of "cultural aggression" by Indian authorities, and was quoted as calling the move “unethical”.
