Guwahati: Eight railroad workers were killed by suspected rebels in conflict-ridden northeastern region of Assam late on Sunday, police said on Monday.
Around ten rebels lined up the eight workers and shot them to death in the village of Faiding, where the victims were building homes, police said.
Authorities suspect the attack was carried out by a faction of the rebel group Dima Halam Daogah.
The group is believed to be responsible for another attack on a railroad station on Saturday night that left one person dead.
On Saturday, the Indian army killed six rebels in a shootout, police said.
In a statement, the rebel group ended a nearly two-month cease-fire with the government but did not take responsibility for the railroad attacks.
