Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leaders from Kerala met party president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Wednesday in a bid to assuage the Indian Union Muslim League's hurt after it took umbrage at certain remarks made by senior Congress leader Aryadan Mohammad and his son Aryadan Shoukath.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala and opposition leader Oommen Chandy met Sonia to apprise her of the serious turn the issue had taken and to seek her mediation in resolving the problem.
"This is a time when the people of Kerala are unhappy about the governance of the Left Democratic Front government. We are keen to ensure that there are no differences between us at this moment," Chandy told journalists.
Karunakaran's flip-flop
There are indications that Sonia advised the state party leadership to iron out any differences with the IUML.
Veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran, earlier, decried the statements made against the IUML leadership but later hastily withdrew his comments.
