Chandigarh: A voluntary organisation based in Chandigarh has offered to adopt the two daughters of a woman who committed suicide on Monday in the office of a top Haryana police official because her complaint alleging rape by two policemen was not registered.
Maa Sharanam, the non-government organisation, has expressed its readiness to adopt 5-year-old Muskan and Heena (3), who were with their mother, Sarita, at the time of the incident.
Sarita (25), a resident of Rohtak in Haryana, committed suicide in the office of V.B. Singh, additional director general of police (ADGP) in charge of law and order.
"We are ready to adopt the girls if their father agrees. We will take full responsibility of their education and upbringing and can even arrange for their marriage at an appropriate time," said Kalpana Ghai, general secretary of Maa Sharanam.
Rohtak Superintendent of Police Hanif Qureshi said on Tuesday: "The two accused are absconding. We have handed the case to the crime branch under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (crime branch), Rajendra Singh."
