Thiruvananthapuram: Most schools in Kerala remained closed yesterday as the education sector in Kerala continued to be embroiled in multiple controversies, affecting both school and higher education in the state.

Even as schools were shut yesterday following an education hartal call by the Kerala Students Union affiliated to the opposition Congress party, the Kerala High Court declared as invalid the entrance test conducted by six self-financing colleges in June.

The professional education sector has been in turmoil ever since the state government liberalised the sector, allowing private investment in running self-financing professional colleges.

Since then, there have been differences of opinion between the state governments.

In the latest development in the professional education sector, Justice S. Sirijagan of the state high court held that the entrance test conducted by the management consortium was not fair, transparent and all on the basis of merit, and that the college managements cannot make admissions based on the results of the entrance test conducted by them.
