Srinagar: Fresh protests erupted in Indian Kashmir on Friday, killing two people and wounding 80 others, police said.

Police fired teargas and bullets to disperse thousands of angry demonstrators in Shopian town, south of Srinagar, killing a protester.

Another protester died after he was hit by a teargas shell in Baramulla town, north of Srinagar.

In Srinagar, thousands of protesters, including women and children, marched into the city's streets, forcing shops, schools and businesses to close.

The unrest started after a government plan to grant land to a Hindu pilgrim trust.
