Dublin: Four BBC journalists from Belfast were released without charge on Monday, police said.

The journalists were arrested on Saturday along with suspected Irish Republican Army dissidents.

The British Broadcasting Corporation has refused to identify the four or explain what they were doing with the suspected dissidents. The BBC did not immediately comment on the release.

The arrests came a week before Easter, when IRA splinter groups traditionally issue bellicose statements against Northern Ireland's links with Britain.

Sgt. Gerry Curley of Ireland's national police says seven other men arrested as part of the operation against IRA dissidents remain in custody.

Under Irish anti-terror laws they must be charged or released within 72 hours.
