Pristina: A Ukrainian policeman died of injuries sustained from Monday’s clashes between Serb demonstrators and peacekeeping forces in Kosovo, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

The officer succumbed to injuries caused by a hand grenade thrown during the violent riots, the worst violence since Kosovo declared independence from Serbia last month.

A Serb demonstrator suffered a brain injury and was in a coma after being shot in the head during the confrontation outside a U.N. courthouse in Mitrovica.

International peacekeepers clashed with Serb protestors after UN police reoccupied a courthouse that had been stormed by the protestors.

Both sides traded gunfire in clashes that wounded more than 60 UN and Nato forces and 70 protesters.
