Yangon: A hip-hop star has been given a six-year jail term for being part of a political group in Myanmar, an opposition spokesman said on Friday.
Zayar Thaw of the popular band ACID was among 20 activists sentenced to long prison terms on Thursday, said Nyan Win, spokesman for the National League for Democracy.
He had been part of a youth political movement called Generation Wave that protests against soaring food and fuel prices and decades of repressive military rule.
The United States and European countries have condemned the junta's closed door trials and sentences, although there has been little comment from countries in the region.
