Katmandu: Two of Nepal’s three major political parties in the ruling coalition may withdraw from the government after dramatic losses to former rebels who have captured almost half the assembly seats in the country’s elections.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's Nepali Congress was trailing with only 32 seats and the Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist-Leninist) has 30 seats.
Officials from the two parties said they will decide whether to withdraw from the coalition government after the final results are in.
The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) has won 166 of 216 directly elected seats so far.
