Gujarat: The Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q), is ready sit on opposition benches in the national assembly, said Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, a central leader of the party and former chief minister of Punjab.
Speaking to the press about the heavy defeat which the ruling party is likely to suffer in the pollls, he said: “We accept the results and the people’s verdict.”
The PML-Q has suffered heavy electoral losses all over the Pakistan and most of his stalwarts, including former federal and provincial ministers, have lost their seats to opponents from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N).
Commenting on the Monday’s poll, he said the elections were fair, impartial, and transparent. The credit goes to President Pervez Musharraf and the government. “We have accepted the results, but our opponents would not have accepted the elections in case of their defeat,” he said.
Talking about his party’s defeat, Elahi said he did not accuse anybody, including President Musharraf, for the party’s defeat in the elections. “There were different factors,” he said, adding that his party had elected the president for five years and continue to support him.
He also refused to accept that a decline in President Musharraf’s popularity was a chief element in PML-Q’s defeat. He, however, stopped short of commenting on the future of Musharraf who could face a difficult situation after the win of the PPP and PML-N. Both the parties have serious differences with his polices.
The President has, however, has already expressed his will to establish working relations with any party proving its majority in the national assembly.
