Islamabad: Dost Mohammad Khosa of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was elected unopposed chief minister of the Punjab province by the new provincial assembly in Lahore on Saturday.
At 35, he is the youngest politician to become chief executive in Punjab.
Dost Mohammad, son of PML-N provincial president and former provincial governor Sardar Zulfikar Ali Khosa, received 263 votes from the 341-member assembly. The opposition PML-Q boycotted the session in protest against the recent incident of manhandling of a former minister in Lahore.
He will remain chief minister until Shahbaz Sharif, PML-N president and brother of Nawaz Sharif, is elected to the Punjab assembly through a bypoll and thus qualifies to become provincial chief executive.
