Karachi: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) formally announced yesterday the formation of a coalition government in the southern Sindh province.
"Thirteen MQM ministers, an adviser and a special assistant will be inducted in the Sindh cabinet," said Pir Mazharul, PPP's Parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly.
Senior MQM leaders including Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghouri were present on the occasion along with key provincial leaders of PPP.
The MQM has been given the portfolios of health, information technology, industry and commerce, environment and alternate energy, sports, youth affairs, rural development, public health and human rights. With the induction of MQM's ministers the Sindh cabinet strength will increase to 39.
"The MQM has given the PPP its unconditional support. It was our turn to reciprocate," he said. "The two parties want to push forward the process of national reconciliation and work together for the development and progress of the province," he said.
Farooq Sattar, a senior MQM leader and member of the National Assembly, said that bringing peace and stability to the province remains the top priority of the parties. "We will work to promote rural-urban unity in Sindh and the economic and social uplift of its people," he said.
