Islamabad: President Pervez Musharraf has summoned the National Assembly to meet here on June 2, the secretariat of the lower house of parliament has announced.

The session comes as the new elected government led by Pakistan Peoples Party is due to present its first national budget for fiscal 2008-09 next month.

PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari said in an interview that a proposed package of constitutional amendments could be presented to the parliament before the budget session.

Zardari added that the package, if presented before the budget, would however be debated after the budget session.
