Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday allowed nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan to meet close relatives and friends while disposing of a petition seeking an end to his detention.

The court however banned Khan from making any statement on the issue of nuclear proliferation.

IHC Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam, who had reserved judgement in the case after conclusion of arguments last week, issued the directives in a brief order yesterday.

The order said Khan would be allowed to meet his close relatives and friends at his residence and to travel inside the country to meet any of his close relatives - permission would however be subject to security clearances and necessary arrangements by the authorities.

"The detenue will not convey/transmit, relay any comments or give interview to any channel, news reporter, print or electronic media in any manner whatsoever in respect of the issue of proliferation," the court order said.

The order also said the "detenue" would be provided facility of health care by a doctor of his own choice as and when requested by him.
