Manila: The prize for the capture of radio commentator Ferdinand Lintuan's killers reached 1 million pesos (Dh931,813) yesterday as two Davao City politicians pitched in to raise the bounty.
Reports reaching Manila said Davao City Representative Prospero Nograles contributed 500,000 pesos to the prize just hours after Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte announced that he will give a similar amount as reward for anyone who can provide information that would lead to the capture of the killers.
Lintuan, 51, was shot by two motorcycle-riding gunmen at a busy Davao City intersection on Monday as his car stopped at a traffic light. Two of the commentator's colleagues who were riding with him in the car, were unharmed.
Reports said police are exploring the possibility that politics was behind the slaying of the widower.
Immediately after the Christmas Eve slaying, police formed "Task Force Batman" to probe the killing. Task Force Batman took its name from Lintuan's monicker "Batman" because he drove an old Volkswagen Beetle similar to the Batmobile to work. Lintuan earns his living as a radio station "blocktimer" for dxGO. As a blocktimer, he purchases airtime from the radio station and sells it to advertisers.
Earlier, Duterte denied that he had a hand in the killing of Linluan, a popular commentator who frequently assailed his politicies in his radio programme.
