Manila: A local screen personality is currently being investigated after airport authorities found several pieces of live ammunition inside his baggage.
Actor John Estrada, 34, had been prevented by security personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from taking his flight to Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, after baggage screeners found 15 pieces of nine millimetre ammunition inside his declared belongings.
Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group Director Atilano Morada said Estrada was already on the last phase of the mandatory airport screening of passengers and their baggage when the X-Ray machine operator noticed a metal object among the actor's hand-carried belongings.
Estrada was ordered by the authorities to step out of the passenger queue and was subjected to questioning. Morada said upon further examination, authorities found in Estrada's possession the pieces of ammunition which were stored in a clip.
Reports said Estrada was not able to show any permit from authorities that he is eligible to carry live ammunition with him.
Not the first time
Charges are being prepared against Estrada for possessing the bullets. The incident Thursday was not the first time that Estrada had a brush with authorities at the Manila airport.
Last year, the actor was detained for a few minutes by aviation police after he joked that he was carrying a bomb as he was waiting his turn in the passenger baggage screening queue.
Carrying bullets aboard aircraft, much worse an entire ammunition clip full, is strictly prohibited in accordance with internationally-recognised aviation safety and security rules.
