Manila: Former Philippine president Corazon Aquino has colon cancer, her daughter said on Monday.
Aquino was diagnosed with the disease after a persistent cough and other symptoms surfaced between Christmas and New Year, her daughter Kris said on national television.
The 76-year-old Aquino has recently been attending rallies calling for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Aquino has become an icon of democracy after she was swept into power by a peaceful revolution that ousted the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1986.
