Manila: The death toll in the storm that hit the Philippines over the weekend has risen to 24 from 12, the Office of the Civil Defence said on Tuesday.
Many of the victims died in floods or were buried in collapsed structures.
Rescuers pulled a villager alive from a hut buried by a landslide, but he died on the way to a hospital in Itogon township in Benguet province, officials said.
In nearby Pangasinan province, where Tropical Storm Halong made landfall on Saturday, four people including a 15-year-old died when they were hit by iron sheets blown off houses, the National Disaster Coordination Council said.
Storm Halong also left more than 416,000 people homeless and caused an estimated damage of $4.3 million, officials said.
Forecasters said the storm was expected to pass south of Tokyo on Tuesday.
