Manila: Movie houses in the Philippines have taken steps to prevent video piracy by deploying "spotters" armed with sophisticated equipment that enables them to see clearly in the darkened hall.
"We have bought night vision equipment to prevent recording of films inside cinemas," said Ric Camaligan, president of the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council Inc, a group of big film producers and mall theatre.
Night vision cameras use technology developed by the military.
"Video pirates now can easily record a movie through their mobile phones and then reap profits from bootleg copies sold by ambulant vendors just about anywhere," he said.
