Manila: An illegal recruiter who had swindled millions from unsuspecting victims was trapped after he fell for a woman National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agent posing as an overseas job-seeker on an internet chatroom.
Albert Apostadero, 39, was arrested on May 28 after NBI sleuths set an elaborate "honey trap" to collar him, NBI Director Nestor Mantaring said at a press briefing.
Apostadoro had been wanted for allegedly swindling an estimated 20 million pesos (Dh1,685,818) from people whom he promised jobs in Spain. He would demand between 70,000 pesos to 90,000 pesos from each applicant.
NBI agents lay in wait as Apostadero arrived at a motel in suburban Quezon City after emerging from his hiding place in Koronadal City, Mindanao.
