Manila: Two days after the US Embassy in Manila posted a website warning to its nationals against travelling to southern Philippines, the advisory had vanished, apparently stricken off from the site.
The removal of the warning is expected to be temporary but similar occurrences in the past had been a source of disagreement between the allies.
The US Embassy is apparently trying to avoid a matter that could hurt the otherwise cordial relations between the two countries.
In its travel advisory posted on the website on Friday, the embassy advised US nationals to observe caution when visiting Mindanao.
There is a "need for caution in Mindanao" the advisory said, pointing out that there had been recent incidences of bombings targetting electrical power distribution networks in the southern main island.
"These acts may indicate a planned escalation of attacks, which could include shopping malls, commercial centres and other public gathering places. US citizens should exercise extreme caution in Mindanao, particularly over the next several weeks," the advisory dated July 10 had stated.
Advisory removed
By yesterday afternoon, it had vanished - apparently removed by the foreign office's Internet website administrators.
Any form of warning of terror attacks in the Philippines have serious repercussion for the country's travel industry.
US nationals comprise the bulk of foreign visitors to Mindanao, particularly in Davao City and tourist destinations like Surigao.
The issuance of a travel warning from the US Embassy was immediately followed by an assurance from Philippine officials that it is safe to travel in Mindanao.
