Manila: Militant kidnappers abducted five people, including two children, from a public vehicle in the South, reports said on Monday.

Armed men took away the passengers of a small vehicle that was flagged down at Tumahubong village, Sumisip town on Sunday morning, Basilan Bishop Martin Jumoad said in a belated report yesterday.

The victims were identified as Ronnie Ando, a driver, Wilma Sumergido, Vilma Aizon, and two children who were not named, said Jumaod, adding the kidnappers segregated the Muslim and Christian passengers.

"Peace and order in the south has deteriorated because ordinary and poor people are being victimised," said Jumaod.

Basilan police chief Salik Macapantar confirmed the incident.

Militant teenagers

Meanwhile, two militant teenage kidnappers who were involved in last month's ten-day abduction of broadcast journalists and their escorting professor were nabbed in Sulu last Friday, Colonel Eugenio Clemen, commander of the 3rd Marine Brigade, said yesterday.

The suspects, identified as Nadzmir Amirul alias Abu Kudama, 18, and a 14-year old companion who was not named, were arrested when their motorcycle reached a Marine checkpoint that was set up by the 5th Marine Battalion Landing Team in Patikul, Sulu Island on Friday afternoon," said Clemen.

One of the suspects, clad in a camouflage uniform and inverted cap, was recognised from a footage taken by the cameramen who were captured, said Clemen.

Ces Drilon, Angelo Valderama and Jimmy Encarnacion, all of ABS CBN, and Professor Octavio Dinampo of Mindanao State University were abducted in Jolo while they were on their way to an interview with the new head of the Abu Sayyaf rebel group on June 8.
