Manila: The Philippine National Police is planning to use female officers to guard against the possibility of wanted Moro Islamic Liberation Front (Milf) commanders evading security checks by dressing up as Moro women.
In a press briefing, Director General Avelino Razon Jr is mulling the possibility of deploying policewomen to man checkpoints in Central Mindanao.
Razon said reports reaching his office said there is a possibility that wanted Milf commanders Ombra Kato, Abdullah Macapaar alias Bravo, and Aleem Sulayman Pangalian would dress up like women so that they could evade authorities.
Razon said these leaders could take advantage of certain customs so that they could move around areas in Central Mindanao with virtual impunity by presenting themselves as women. Razon said they are aware that male soldiers and policemen are prohibited from conducting body searches on women.
