Moscow: Russia’s foreign minister has said Iran’s weapon tests have proved there is no need for America’s controversial plan to deploy missile shields in eastern Europe.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Sergei Lavrov said this week’s missile tests showed that Iran can only fire rockets with a range of 2,000km and would be unable to reach Europe.
"We continue to be convinced of the invented nature of discussions about the Iranian rocket threat as a motive for the deployment of the missile shield in Europe," Lavrov added.
The US says the plan for a shield in Europe is needed to defend against missile attacks from countries such as Iran.
