Colombo: Thirty two Tamil Tiger rebels have been killed in a series of clashes with Sri Lankan in northern Sri Lanka, the military said on Wednesday.

The dead also include one soldier, while three others were wounded in eight confrontations on Tuesday, according to a military spokesman.

According to the military, a rebel held area has also been acquired, while Tamil Tiger bunkers have been destroyed in an area that separates rebel-held from government territory in the northwestern district of Mannar.

This move is part of the military’s wider plan to reduce Tamil Tiger power.
