Boston: United States Senator Edward Kennedy who has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour was released from the hospital on Wednesday.
His physicians said he had recovered remarkably from his procedure on Monday and was therefore released from the hospital.
The 76-year-old lawmaker waved to supporters and embraced family members as he left Massachusetts General Hospital, where has been since experiencing a seizure at his family's Cape Cod vacation home on Saturday.
US senators expressed grief upon hearing about Senator Edward Kennedy’s diagnosis of brain tumor during their weekly meeting.
Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and may have less than a year to live.
Many of the senators appeared misty-eyed and visibly affected by the news.
The longest-serving member of the US Senate, Robert C Byrd, wept as he prayed for his “dear, dear friend” during a speech on the Senate floor.
The 90-year-old Byrd, who is in a wheelchair, pleaded: “Keep Ted here for us and for America.”
He added: “Ted, Ted, Ted. My dear friend. I love you and miss you.”
President Bush also saluted Kennedy as “a man of tremendous courage, remarkable strength and powerful spirit.”
He added: “We join our fellow Americans in praying for his full recovery.”
Kennedy will remain in the hospital for the next couple of days as doctor’s consider chemotherapy and radiation.
The physicians said Kennedy “remains in good spirits and full of energy.”
