London: Fiona MacKeown, the mother of a British teenager who was raped and murdered in Goa, says she is "over the moon" at the news that Nerlon Albuquerque, the police officer she accused of lying, has been sacked.

Nerlon Albuquerque, a sub-inspector with Anjuna police, who had originally concluded that 15-year-old Scarlett Keeling had drowned to her death, was sacked on Friday after allegations that he mishandled the inquiry.

MacKeown accused Albuquerque of malpractice and campaigned for a second post-mortem, which concluded that Scarlett had more than 50 bruises and that she had been given ecstasy, cocaine and LSD on the night she died.
