London: Some of the world's best artists gathered for a huge concert in London on Friday to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday.
Queen, Razorlight and Annie Lennox were among musicians performing at the gig for the former South African president's birthday cum campaign against Aids.
Other performers include Amy Winehouse, Simple Minds, Josh Groban, Joan Baez, Leona Lewis, the Sugababes, Andrea and Sudandese rapper Emmanuel Jal.
More than 40,000 music fans watched the outdoor show in London's Hyde Park, hosted by American movie star Will Smith.
"Your voices carried across the water to inspire us in our prison cells far away," Mandela told the crowd. "We are honored to be back in London for this wonderful celebration.
"But even as we celebrate, let us remind ourselves that our work is far from complete," he said.
Mandela, who turns 90 on July 18, is now in frail health and has difficulty walking unaided but is trying to raise funds for his Aids charity.
Proceeds from the concert are going to 46664, the Aids charity named for the number Mandela wore in prison for 27 years.
He was sentenced to life in jail for sabotage and was released only in 1990. He admitted he planned the sabotage because of the "political situation that had arisen after many years of tyranny, exploitation and oppression of my people by the whites."
