Dubai: If you’re looking for a new employer, it may be a good idea to narrow down the search to the ones that are popular. Companies tend to win the votes of most jobseekers because of their good reputation as an employer – they treat their staff right, offer great benefits and promote a work-life balance.

According to a study conducted among more than 267,000 millennials worldwide, Google is perceived to be the most ideal employer to work for. The multinational technology company, which employs more than 57,000 workers, has been named the most attractive employer in the world in Universum’s latest annual survey.

The World’s Most Attractive Employer 2016 survey ranks organisations based on the feedback of thousands of university business and engineering/IT students from 12 of the world’s largest economies: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom and United States.

The study attempts to find out which employers are being held in highest regard among career seekers, and to understand their attitudes about work-life balance and career goals.

Among business students, the most ideal employer is Google, followed by Apple, Ernst & Young (EY), Goldman Sachs and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the top five.

For students taking up engineering and information technology degrees, Google is still a clear favourite, followed by Microsoft, Apple, BMW Group and IBM.Knowing what is attractive to the young population is important for companies, especially at a time when they struggle to find the right talent that can propel business performance.

To win the World’s Most Attractive Employer title, companies must appear in the top 90 per cent of employers within at least six regional markets. Total points gained are weighted based on the size of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom and United States.

The results of the study reflect the attitudes of young talent about career and personal life. The students polled for the study are actively in pursuit of obtaining a well-balanced lifestyle that encompasses work with personal time.

Except for students from India, all survey respondents consider a “well-balanced” lifestyle as the most important thing. For those from India, having an international career is more important, while in Russia, job security is key.
